Update (2140 EST): Security forces claim a woman left a bag at the scene which then exploded. Istanbul Governor Yetlikaya has confirmed the incident and implemented an information blackout on the attack.
At least three have been killed and eleven have been injured after an explosion ripped through Istiklal St. near Taksim Square, Istanbul, Turkey.
At approximately 0823 EST in what bystanders are calling a possible suicide bombing, a single explosion detonated in front of a crowd near several shops on the popular tourist and commercial area. Emergency services have told press that at least eleven have been wounded so far.
Emergency services have established a cordon and no government comment has been given yet.
