At least three people are dead after a Taliban Air Force UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter crashed during a training exercise in Kabul today. According to the Taliban Ministry of National Defense, the helicopter suffered a “technical problem” and crash landed inside the campus of the National Defense University, killing three crew members, including both pilots. The Ministry of National Defense also stated that five other people were wounded, but did not specify if they were crew members or bystanders on the ground.

It remains unclear exactly how many Blackhawks the Taliban has after the fall of Afghanistan and the withdrawal of American forces from the country last August. According to the United States Department of Defense, the Afghan military had 33 UH-60s as of June 30, 2022, but it is unknown how many were left operational and how many have been repaired by the Taliban.
