Update (1131 EST): Russia-Appointed Sevastopol Governor Razvozhaev has announced an aircraft skidded off the runway and the fire brigade was conducting recovery operations.

20 minutes ago civilians recorded a large explosion at Belbek Airfield, occupied Crimea. This is developing.

The airfield was also a dual-use civil aviation airport for six years from 2002 to 2007 under Ukrainian administration. In 2017, there were plans made public to restore the airfield into an international airport by 2020 under Russian adminsistration, but the plans did not happen.

Since 2014, following the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War and the annexation of Crimea by Russia, the base has been operated by the Russian Ministry of Defence. (Wiki)

On August 11th, 5 Su-27/30 fighters from the 38th Fighter Aviation Regiment (Belbek, Crimea) we’re moved deeper into Russia following the Ukrainian strike on Saky Airfield.
