Update (2309 EST): Missile flew at an apogee 970km for 4,500km at a top speed of Mach 17.

Update (2156 EST): Missile launch was most likely Hwasong-12 IRBM based on range, apogee, and speed from flight time. The Japanese Defense Minister has also told press the launch was most likely the Hwasong-12.

This is the 8th test of the Hwasong-12 and the 3rd time it has overflown Japan. The last test was on January 30, 2022, pictured below.

Update (2004 EST): South Korean President Yoon announced the missile flew about 4,000km.

Update (2018 EST): South Korean General Staff states missiles flew 350km at an apogee of 30km at a max speed of Mach 6.

Update (1906 EST): The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff have confirmed North Korea has launched two short-range ballistics missiles into the Sea of Japan.

The Japanese Coast Guard has announced that 10 minutes ago two ballistic missiles were launched from North Korea, this makes the third day in a row. Details are still coming in.

The last launch was September 29th in which two short range ballistic missiles were fired. This is the 19th launch day of 2022 for a total of 38 projectiles ranging from submarine launch and train launched ballistic missiles, to cruise missiles, to reported hypersonics to ICBMs.
