On October 31st, Russian President Putin, Azeri President Aliyev, and Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan met in Sochi, Russia, at Putins private residence for a meeting that was Supposed to have laid the groundwork for a final peace deal.

However, it didn’t. The exact happenings of the meeting are currently being kept under wraps by Putin. But what we do know is that there were several points of contention between the parties that rendered the talks relatively unfruitful.

Putin said the talks were still « very useful », and in a joint statement that both nations « agreed not to use force », and « settle all disputes solely on the basis of recognition of mutual sovereignty and territorial integration ».

It is, of course, worth saying that realistically these things were already agreed upon. Despite these previous agreements and this new reassurance, the ceasefire is regularly broken.

When asked what the points of disagreement were, Putin declined to say, citing they were « too delicate » to discuss publicly.
