NATO General Secretary Stoltenberg has told press that the missile that landed in Poland was most likely fired from Ukrainian air defenses in an attempt to intercept Russian missiles which were fired en masse against the country yesterday. He also told press that there was never any indication Russia was planning an attack and that this strike was not deliberate from either side. However, he still does hold Russia responsible for this “senseless war” and that Ukraine has the right to defend itself from Russian missiles.
This announcement has triggered Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to demand an apology for the Polish summons of the Russian Ambassador yesterday.
This has still not assuaged the Italian Prime Minister who told press that Russia must still be held accountable for the aggression that resulted in the deaths in Poland. The German Prime Minister echoed the same message by saying: “Germany does not care who fired the missile because it’s Russias fault for attacking Ukraine.”
