Three Jordanian Police Officers Killed in Terrorism Raid

Date:

Three Jordanian police officers were killed on Monday during a counter terrorism raid near the city of Maan against a jihadist cell that was suspected of murdering a police officer last Friday during rioting over rising fuel prices.

According to the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, Deputy Police Director of Maan province Colonel Dr. Abdelrazzaq Al-Dalabeh was fatally shot in the head on Friday while “performing his duty during a riot that was being carried out by a group of outlaws” in the town of Al-Husseiniya.

The Public Security Directorate reported on Monday that a raid targeting the suspects resulted in three officers being killed and five more wounded during an intense firefight. One suspect was killed and nine others were arrested while “automatic firearms and a large amount of ammunition” were also seized from the premises.

The officers that were killed have been identified as Captain Ghaith Al-Rahahleh, Lieutenant Moataz Al-Najada, and Agent Ibrahim Shakareen.

No other details were provided about the raid or the suspects, other than saying they hold a “Takfiri ideology,” which is often associated with jihadist groups like the Islamic State and its affiliates.
